Mike Espinoza

About
Mike Espinoza (he/him/his) is an English and Ethnic Studies high school teacher at Branham High School in San Jose, CA, and this year he is also the Ethnic Studies TOSA for Campbell Union High School District. Mike has been incorporating Ethnic Studies curriculum and concepts into his classes since his first year teaching, and four years ago he created the "Ethnic Literature" course for his district, which integrated Ethnic Studies with English into one class that would both satisfy the English requirement and the Ethnic Studies requirement. Personally, Mike has been a passionate activist since his college days at San Jose State, and he is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Chicana and Chicano Studies with an emphasis in comparative ethnic studies from SJSU.

Bridging Through High School Ethnic Studies
The UC Berkeley High School Ethnic Studies Initiative (HSESI) is a collaboration between the American Cultures Center, Department of Ethnic Studies, and History-Social Science Project intended to develop curriculum materials to support Bay Area teachers and school districts meeting the 2025-26 school-year rollout of the California Ethnic Studies high school graduation requirement.
