Joanna Garcia is Research Assistant for speaking engagements. Prior to her work at the Haas Institute, Joanna was a Board Director for the Berkeley Student Cooperative where she was a part of the Demographic Inclusion Task Force. She worked to identify root causes for the lack of socioeconomic inclusion within the BSC and developed the framework for the creation of a new theme house based on anti-oppression and heterogeneity. Additionally, Joanna was the creator and Editor-In-Chief of I, Too, Am Berkeley, a high profiled photography research project aimed at documenting racial microaggressions underrepresented students of color experience at UC Berkeley. Joanna is currently a UC Berkeley undergraduate double majoring in Spanish Literature and History with a minor in Ethnic Studies. She hopes to continue to learn and expand her understanding of race, social inequality, diversity, and economic disparities.
