The Haas Institute advances research and policy related to marginalized groups and social cleavages including disability, LGBTQ citizenship, race, religion, economics, public health, education, democracy and the new emerging research on global north/global south relations. The Institute represents a tremendous opportunity to bring leading researchers and substantial resources across disciplines to bear on society’s pressing and pivotal issues related to equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Working directly with and reporting to the program manager for the Haas Network for Transformative Change, this position will focus on the development and implementation of an engagement process of partner organizations of the Haas Network’s Strategic Narrative Project—efforts to bring about a higher level of coherence across efforts for a more inclusive society by aligning behind an analysis and set of implications. This person will form part of the core HIFIS Network team helping to develop and carry out the multiple strategies of the Network’s efforts through research and analysis and relationship building. In addition, coordination of the community engagement events will rely on this position.
- Support in setting the agenda for collaboration with stakeholder groups based on their particular needs. Drafting project recommendations and refining a strategy based on these inputs: analysis, research, field assessment, and feedback from the partners.
- Support the implementation of the engagement process that flows from this strategy by developing group prospect lists, analysis of the field, outreach/recruitment activities, curriculum or material creation, and logistical plans for the engagement points.
- Responsible for processing evaluations coming out of the engagement points and making recommendations for revising the strategy and processes based on these.
- Responsible for analysis of data and political research related to public opinion and elections; including an understanding of the landscape that crosses this thematic area.
- Analysis of research in the mind sciences with the intended purpose of applying latest findings to communications and solidarity building efforts that help define an “identity formation” strategy.
- Developing systems or using already established project and Haas systems for tracking administrative and financial activities. Participating in appropriate Haas staff meetings and other organizational efforts that call on the entire staff for support such as the O&B conference and retreats. Availability for travel within the state and across the country will be necessary.

- Masters degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
- Knowledge of practices and procedures associated with community organizing and social justice models.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including skill to produce information that is appropriately presented and effectively received by academic and non-academic audiences.
- Knowledge of network and relationship building and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of internal and external constituencies.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including skills to plan, organize and implement successful events of varying size.
- High level of responsivity in handling constituent concerns, resolving problems or issues.
- Knowledge of the Haas Institute, as well as the University of California, Berkeley, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements, issues of concern and infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and to respond appropriately to rapidly changing deadlines.
- Ability to travel domestically, as well as staff events outside normal working hours.
- Flexible, self-motivated; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Capable of supervising student assistants as needed.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
